    Paris, Dec 9, 1896
    Madame,
A day after a cruel mourning, it is for me another sorrow that I cannot be present to your glorious day show and acclaim "la dicieme muse" (the Tenth Muse).... The most prominent artist of our times! My seat, alas! will remain empty, but I shall be there anyway by heart and enthusiasm.
