    The Letter Reads...

    London 6. Garwel Rd
    Bayswater
    June 22nd 1849

    Sir,
It has been suggested to me by many artists who have seen the original picture of "Jeptha's Daughter" that the picture would be very much improved by a very slight alteration in the figure at the feet of the principal female. And as I would wish your duplicate to be as perfect as I can make it, I wish to ask your permission to make this improved alteration which I will explain as well as I can in so small a space.
The figure I allude to has arms folded over her lyre in this way:

    ( drawing )

The objectionable part is the sharp angle made by the elbow of the left arm and which could be remedied so as to improve the composition (not alone of the individual figure, but of the whole group) by bringing the left arm down as shown in the amended figure.

    ( drawing )

Will you have the kindess to favor me with a line to say if you will permit me to make this alteration.
Is it your wish that I should order a frame fro it when complete?

    I am Sir
    Your obedient servant

    Henry O'Neil

    A. Dennistorm Esq.
