ARC has received a $15,000 grant from the Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund for our ARC Scholarship Program 2010. ARC will match this generous grant, making $30,000 available for scholarships in 2010. We send our thanks to the Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund. This year, the Schapiro Fund has given us an increase of $5,000 making it a $15,000 grant. ARC will match the grant, and so we can proudly offer our 2010 Scholarship Program $30,000 in funding for art students who want to study at ARC Approved Schools and Ateliers. $5,000 of the Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund grant and $5,000 from ARC continues to be designated for young art students who show great potential but who may not have as yet had any of the advantages of academic training. Their work cannot compete with even second year atelier students, but their potential can be assessed and they should have the opportunity to receive grants on an entry level. At least $10,000 in grant monies are earmarked for young talented students such as seniors in high school or young adults in their twenties who are disillusioned with the present established art training system and want to transfer to at an ARC Approved School or Atelier. We are especially proud to have been recognized a third time by the Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund as this shows that their board and advisors are pleased with last year's ARC scholarship winners and with how the program was managed. It also places us in the company of important foundations and non-profit programs that have done much good for culture and society and who have also received generous grants from the Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund in the arts and sciences. The Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund has played a major role or offered a helping hand in many cultural, artistic, educational and research projects of merit and significance for society in the arts & sciences. So from everyone at ARC and from all the students who will benefit from this grant, a hearty thanks to the Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund. We also want to thank Jacob Collins http://www.jacobcollinspaintings.com/ who originally suggested that ARC apply for this grant. About the Morris and Alma Schapiro FundSome of the other projects that the Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund has championed are listed below: Alma Schapiro Prize Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund is known for its prestigious Alma Schapiro Prize. www.classicist.org The Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America is pleased and proud to launch a new biannual affiliated fellowship at the American Academy in Rome for distinguished American students or professionals with demonstrable commitment to the classical tradition and its contemporary practice in painting and sculpture. The centerpiece of the Alma Schapiro Prize for the selected American painter or sculptor recipient will be a three-month affiliated fellowship at the American Academy in Rome, the premier overseas center for independent study and artistic pursuit in the arts and humanities. Its purpose is to advance the career of the artist recipient and to foster the tradition as a vital aspect of contemporary continuity of knowledge of the classical culture around the globe. The Grand Central Academy of Art www.classicist.org The Institute has launched a major new educational initiative called the Grand Central Academy of Art (GCAA). As most of you know, ICA & CA maintains as part of our core philosophy that architecture, urbanism, and the fine arts form an indissoluble unity. We have always had superior painters--like Leonard Porter and John Woodrow Kelley--among our Fellows. Now, with a grant from the Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund, GCAA furthers our mission with a school for the training of classical realist painters, under the guidance of ICA&CA trustee and painter Jacob Collins. Poet's House www.poetshouse.org NY Public Library Acquires Yaddo's Archives www.yaddo.org Yaddo Records Never Before Made Public Join the Collections of The New York Public Library New York (July 19, 1999) - Paul LeClerc, President of The New York Public Library, announced today that the archives of Yaddo, the distinguished artists' community in Saratoga Springs, New York, have been acquired by The New York Public Library. "Rich in intellectual and historical content, and never before made public, the Yaddo Records tell the story of Yaddo's critical roles as seedbed and nursemaid of twentieth-century arts and letters," said Dr. LeClerc. Notably, the transfer takes place as the artists' retreat celebrates the 100th anniversary of its founding. "It is fitting that we commemorate the beginning of Yaddo's second century by assuring the preservation of the records that document and embody its history, so that they will be available to scholars and the public, " Michael Sundell, President of Yaddo. " a scholar myself, I know that The New York Public Library is absolutely the most suitable repository for these treasures. " Carnegie Hall www.carnegiehall.org Foundation partnerships form an integral group of supporters that help Carnegie Hall achieve its artistic, educational and outreach objectives.
